The Roundabout
December 19, 2020

The night was thickly dark, heavy clouds draped over the night sky. Without forgiveness, they concealed any glimpse of the celestial light. Even the faint glow of the distant moon would have assisted my weary eyes as they strained to see any semblance of the road ahead. It was now well past midnight, what had indeed seemed a perfect plan, was now unfolding into a ravelled heap.

No Internet

With only one road to follow, the direction ahead appeared non-descript, simply continue straight, declared the reassuring voice of the navigation aid. Reassured, I drove into the black of night, until the roundabout appeared to silently unravel my every shred of self-confidence. As I carefully circumnavigated the roundabout straining to see the exit, an unwelcome sound of silence became coldly apparent. I was confronted with one circle, four exit roads, no signage, and now no internet.
I only needed one sign to lead me on my way.

Haste….

One would think that over time, past experiences would ensure the same mistakes are not made twice. But alas in our humanity, mistakes do come, and sometimes, unfortunately, we forget the lessons of our past.  One such mistake can be seen in my roundabout adventure. Making hasty decisions and trusting in our own confidence can at times, quickly lead to disaster.

A few nights after this midnight outback adventure, as I was in prayer about some decisions to be made, this vision appeared to me. A roundabout in the sky, but this roundabout had a clear signpost directing me the way to go. I strained to see what’s written on the signpost, but the details eluded me. But this I know, this time as I trust in God, He will show me the road to take, even if I can’t see it clearly now, in time I will.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
