Between Seasons
November 07, 2018

A winters morning in 1988 in the back paddock of my farm in Australias Mallee district. Innocent of the future seasons in my life that lead me to live thousands of miles from home in Hong Kong.

A common saying from my homeland, “Do not be surprised to have four seasons in one day “Melbourne’s weather can be fantastically wild and unpredictable.

And so it can be with this life we live.

What a challenge it can be to embrace with optimism the unexpected seasons of change in our life. We find such love and comfort in that which is so familiar, bringing much angst when called to leave the past behind and travel into unchartered lands, unsure of the destination, or even how to get there.  Then when we think we have it all under control, insecurity or impatience quietly creeps in to obfuscate the waiting season.

My daughter wisely told me. “Just enjoy this season mum- its unique, discover its hidden beauty”.

How easy it is to neglect the beauty of this season, when wounded by seasons past or diffident of seasons ahead.

Know that year after year the fruit tree blossoms. You may think you could never love again, or that all that was good in your life has been ripped away, but God is faithful, He keeps His promises and restores.

Does the tree cry in despair when it’s leaves fly away, does the water weep when the lake freezes up? Or do they know their creator, and trust that this is but a season and spring will come again?

The tree may look dead and barren, but its roots are feeding in deep in the fertile soil, preparing to burst into beauty once more.

Never give up my friend, God is faithful, His love is beyond comprehension. Stay close and draw on Him, for He knows this is just a season and every season has its own beauty.

So enjoy this season, its unique, and discover the value of its hidden beauty”.

God keeps His promises.

Every single good promise that the Lord had given the nation of Israel came to pass.

Joshua 21: 45

“Hope this little thought encourages you to never give up hope.”

After the death of Moses the LORD’s servant, the LORD spoke to Joshua ….and said “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them

Joshua 1:1-2

Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.

Joshua 3:4
